Yesterday we drove home from a week in Yorkshire after staying in what was probably the most beautiful holiday cottage I’ve ever stepped foot in (more to come on that once I’ve uploaded all 859,567 photos). The four of us were therefore already suffering from a bad case of the post-holiday blues, and within 20 minutes of setting off on the long drive home, the littlest had finished her nap (15 minutes instead of the planned 2 hours), both kids had eaten all the car snacks, and I realised I needed a wee.
It was not looking good.
Mid-way through trying to fish out the baby wipes from underneath my chair, pass a sippy cup backwards to the crying baby, and navigate our way through the centre of Bradford (oops), I spotted a notification on my phone. Something about the Mad Blog Awards.
Wait. What?
I quickly ditched said distractions and checked Twitter (the husband, who was driving, was unimpressed – clearly he needs to get his priorities right). And there it was. Out of almost 250,000 nominations, There We Go has somehow made it to a shortlist of six blogs in the Best New Blog category of the UK’s biggest awards for parent bloggers.
Oh. My. Life.
Now, part of me realises I should probably be too cool for school right now. I should take this in my stride – casually mention it and then just forget about it, like a cool blogger would. The thing is though, I’m not a cool blogger. I’m just a mum-of-two who blogs from my sofa, drinks a lot of tea and uses far too much dry shampoo (I’m not actually grey at 33 – I’m just too lazy to wash my hair).
MAD Blog Awards 2016 – Voting Form
And that’s why I’m not too proud to beg ask you to vote for me if you’ve read this blog and enjoyed any of my posts. All you need to do is click through to this nomination form and you’ll find There We Go in the last drop-down menu on the list, under Best New Blog. There are some other great categories, too, so please do vote for some other bloggers while you’re at it – I’m taking my time reading through all the blogs before casting my votes, and have already found some absolute gems.
On that note, I’ve looked at the other blogs I’m up against – some of which I already followed and some I’ve only just discovered – and the bad news is, they’re really good. As in, really good. I spent last night trawling through them and sinking deeper into a pit of oh-crap-I-don’t-stand-a-chance-ness. There was a brief hiatus when I decided I’d just be pleased to rub shoulders with a great bunch of writers at a snazzy awards night, before I remembered I don’t actually know anybody, at all, and that’s basically my worst nightmare (with the exception of lying naked in a bath full of spiders whilst riding the London Eye, which definitely takes the top spot).
So, yeah. It’s been an emotional rollercoaster, and it’s only been 24 hours out of a 4-week voting period, so I’m going to need all the help I can get. I guess what I’m trying to say here is twofold:
- If you’ve got a spare 30 seconds, please would you vote for me?
- If you’re going to the awards, please would you come and say hello to the strange lady with the grey-ish hair and no blogger friends?
There. I told you I wasn’t cool.

Love this! I don’t know anyone either – it may require a lot of wine to pluck up the courage to go..
Katie says
Thanks Dee! At least there are two of us – strength in numbers and all that?! And it sounds like we’ll both be tipsy before we even get there so I reckon it’s a match made in heaven (or a recipe for disaster – one of the two!)

Congratulations!! I also won’t really know anybody and would also probably class it as my worst nightmare second to only a bathtub full of spiders on the london eye (great fear to have! I’m definitely stealing that for my nightmares!) – I do hope all of us loners can find each other on the night!! xx
Katie says
You too Hayley! Do you reckon there’s a loner table for us? I’ll be wearing a white carnation so you can spot me… 😉 x
