Anyone who knows me well will know that I like to over-wrap my kids. The Boy went from one chest infection to another when he was tiny, and I’m always cold. Add them together and you have 2 children who are very well-layered at all times. And probably a little bit hot.
I bought The Boy this Boden jacket in the sale (£30 from £60) as his next winter coat, but we had a chance to test it out when it snowed in the UK back in February. Luckily he was a big fan of the bold orange print, so I just hope he hasn’t gone off it by the time winter comes around again.
Boden don’t sell the same style any more, but they have a similar boys’ snowboarding jacket here, and a girls’ snow jacket here. I bought the matching snowboarding trousers, too (can’t beat a bit of Boden – this stuff lasts YEARS), plus some snow boots I found in TK Maxx and a hat I snapped up in the photography department’s annual wardrobe clearout.
If you’re looking for similar cold-weather clothing for a ski or snowboarding holiday (or just for next winter if you’re a bit like me), try MuddyPuddles.com (brilliant all-weather gear), Raindrops.co.uk (outdoor clothing from Scandanavia) and KoziKidz.com (Swedish-designed clothes for outdoor play). You’ll find everything from salopettes and snowsuits to wellies and waterproofs, and they’re all designed just for kids and babies, so you don’t have to sift through loads of grown-up gear while you’re at it.
